To All Parents & Athletes:

We are writing with some very positive news pertaining to high school athletics and the upcoming winter season. We presented an overview of our plan to safely return to athletics for the upcoming season to the Wellesley School Committee.  After the presentations and questions, the School Committee voted unanimously in favor of beginning the winter season on Monday, December 14th. The sports that we will have this winter season are Alpine Ski, Basketball, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Nordic Ski, and Boys Swimming and Diving. Indoor Track may be moved to what will be referred to as Fall II, which will begin in late February. Dance and Wrestling may be moved to the spring season.  Please note the MIAA will now have four athletic seasons so student-athletes are now able to participate in four seasons this school year. The MIAA, in cooperation with DESE and the EEA, has released ‘Sport Modifications’ for the winter sports. Those documents can be found here.

If you are interested in participating in an approved winter sport at Wellesley High School, registration is open.  Please help us by registering by this Friday, December 11th. To register, visit, select Online Registration, login, and select the sport for which you would like to register. If you have any questions about how to register additional instructions can be found at this link.

Before you can tryout, practice, or participate on any team you must complete the following:

  1. Complete the online registration and fee payment. To see if you qualify for financial assistance, visit or the Business Office for more information. If you qualify for financial assistance and have completed the share form, please call the Athletic Office to register.
  2. Submit a current physical examination to the High School Nurse. Per the MIAA, a physical exam covers the student for 13 months from the exam date. A student’s eligibility will terminate once a physical has reached the 13 month limit. No virtual/tele-health physicals are allowed.

Tryouts/practices are expected to begin on Monday, December 14th.  A schedule for the first week of tryouts/practices will be posted to the Athletic Department homepage ( once we have further information about student-athlete interest as well as facility availability and restrictions. We hope to have the times posted by Friday afternoon with updates to follow. Expect all sports to begin on Monday. Dates, times, and locations will be subject to change. Student athletes should plan to be available every weekday afternoon and potentially on weekends. For planning purposes, many of our Varsity teams will be practicing during the school vacation. Sub-varsity teams may offer optional practices.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Athletic Department at 781-446-6290 extension 7.

Wishing you a safe and healthy 2020-2021 winter season.
