Dear Bates,

I hope the school year has gotten off to a good start for your family.  The energy and joy in the building (and on the playgrounds) has been amazing.  We are really enjoying our newly blended “HunneBates” school.  I ask that our Bates families please continue to think about our Hunnewell kindergarten and grade 5 families and ways we can all make them feel welcome in our community.

Back to School Night for Bates and Hunnewell at Bates Families

We look forward to welcoming families back for an in-person Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 14.  Back to School Night is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and learn all about your child’s school year.  The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30 – 7:00

K-2 classroom presentations

7:00 – 7:30

Principal welcome in the gym

7:30 – 8:00

Grades 3-5 classroom presentations

If you are not able to join us Wednesday night, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

Thank you for your help following our arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure the safety of our children.  Please remember the following:

  • The parking lot is closed during arrival and dismissal.  Only faculty and staff may use the parking lot at these times.

  • Please continue to update PickUp Patrol to ensure we know your child’s dismissal plans each day.  Please contact Megan LeBlanc in the office if you need help with this procedure.

In the car line:

  • New this year: cars may no longer use the bus lane.

  • When exiting the car line, turn right on Elmwood Road.  This will help the car line and buses move efficiently and safely.

  • Adults should not get out of their car at any time.  In order to use the car line, children must be able to get out of the car with minimal help.

  • Students should only get out of the car on the passenger side.  Please plan accordingly.

  • Please remember to approach the car line from Westgate Road.  Do not turn left into the front circle.

Finally, we ask that you be mindful of our Bates neighbors.  Please do not block driveways, crosswalks or intersections at any time.  Thank you for your help with these procedures.

We hope to see you on Wednesday night at Bates.  Have a great weekend.

Warmly,

Toni Jolley
