Dear HunneBates,

The Day of Play is next week: Wednesday, January 25!  Below are a few ways you can help to make the Day of Play a success:

  • Collect cardboard boxes, cardboard tubes, egg cartons and other recyclable materials at home to bring in next week, starting on Monday.  Please send materials to school in a brown paper bag if possible.  As a reminder, students are asked to share materials with other students.

  • Sign up to volunteer in your child’s classroom on the Day of Play for 30 minutes, an hour or more if you have not done so already.  Use this form to sign up to help cut cardboard, organize materials and clean up.  Thank you in advance to all of our volunteers who make this day possible.

  • Students will use their Day of Play sketchbook.  If your child’s sketchbook is at home, please send it back to school tomorrow or Monday.

Finally, a note about our learning goals for the Day of Play.  Children may be excited about the Day of Play and the fun associated with creating and inventing.  We also recognize that the design process can be messy and frustrating.  We support children to work through challenges and value these moments as important learning opportunities.  We end the day with reflection, asking not “What did you make?” but “What did you learn?”

Thank you for supporting this special day.

Warmly,

Toni Jolley
