Dear Families,

March is here and it looks like winter wants to stay with us for a few more weeks.  Kindergarten Round Up is postponed due to the impending snowstorm tonight and tomorrow. The new date will be Saturday, March 9th from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Sprague School.

Recently it has been noticed that many students are getting out of their cars after 8:30 a.m. causing them to be entering the building after 8:30.  Please have your child to the school by 8:27 a.m. as that is when the bell rings for all students to enter the building. Classroom instruction begins at 8:30 a.m.   Students arrive in the building after 8:35 will be marked as tardy. Thank you for your help with this procedure.

A highlight for next week is our Day of Play.  Students will be working together to build creations that protect our animals and/or environment.  It will be exciting to see what the students create. Please remember to send in a grocery bag of clean recycled items.  Boxes are welcome but can not be bigger than a desk. To make this day a success we will need 2-3 volunteers per classroom to help assist with the “construction” process (cutting cardboard, etc.) during both the first creating/building block from 8:45-9:45, as well as the second creating/building block from 10:15-11:15 (clean-up help will also be needed during this second block).

Fitness and Health News

We just wrapped up a very fun and exciting jumping unit. Our sponsor is The American Heart Association. They donated several short and long jump ropes that we use in Fitness and Health classes as well as in Jump Rope Club (grades 2-5). The focus of the unit was to teach students that there are many different ways to jump with and without equipment.

Through a series of 8-9 stations, students learned to jump in a variety of ways. The mini trampolines were one of the favorite stations. Student’s inner rock stars came out in full swing! The best part was the 80’s Open House. It was a great opportunity to see families come into the gym and participate with their children 80’s style. I got to take more of a backseat and watch all of the wonderful interactions between staff, families and students jumping together. I was able to catch a lot of tender moments between families. Thank you for coming into our classes and for getting into the 80’s spirit!

During this unit, we also raised money for the Kid’s Heart Challenge program. It was a huge success, we raised as a school over $2,000. WOW, that is amazing! Thank you for all your

support in helping your children raise so much money to help out the American Heart Association. You did your part to save a heart!

Have a wonderful weekend!
