Fiske Falcon

Fiske Families,

Parents/Guardians have access to your  child/children’s SBRC as of 3:00 p.m. today.  Directions to access the SBRC were sent last week and are included in this email.  We are asking parents/guardians to digitally sign the report card this year to indicate that you have read it.  If you are having technical difficulty, please contact portal@wellesleyps.org. The portal team is available Mon-Fri 8am-4pm.

With respect to the grading on the Standards Based Report Card, students are assessed relative to end-of-year grade-level standards.  The indicators are:

M = Meeting the standard consistently and independently.

P = Progressing towards meeting the standard.

B = Beginning to progress towards meeting the standard.

N = Not yet demonstrating progress towards meeting the standard.

An asterisk by the standard indicates that it has not been assessed during this particular term because the unit is taught in the second half of the school year.  If there is a blank by the standards it indicates the standard is not being taught this year due to a temporary realignment of the curriculum

Access to Standards Based Report Cards

Last week families received a letter indicating that report cards will be available via PowerSchool on Friday, January 29th at 3:00 p.m. Here is some important information to know about this change:

  • On Friday, January 29 at 3:00 PM Grades K-5 Standards Based Report Cards will be available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal under the “Student Reports” tab.

  • Parents will login to PowerSchool using the same Username and Password they used in September to fill out their annual permission forms and to find out their student’s homeroom teacher. Feel free to test your PowerSchool login this week, to make sure you remember it. If you do not remember your username and password, please follow the instructions below:

  • Go to the Portal at wellesley.powerschool.com

Panelist Discussion

On Monday parents/guardians had the opportunity to join a panel discussion that was focused on having honest conversation with your child/children about difficult topics.

A Fisketastic thank you to our panelist :

  • Dr. Mark Kline- Director of HRS in Wellesley

  • Sharon Grossman- Fiske School Psychologist

  • Michele Mendoza- Fiske Second Grade Teacher

  • Kelly O’Sullivan – Fiske Fourth Grade Teacher

  • Kim Rocco – Fiske Fifth Grade Teacher and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Facilitator

Their professional experiences and understanding of children were extremely helpful in helping navigate these conversations.    One comment from Dr. Mark Kline that resonated  with me is how during difficult times it is  important for all of us to project hope to our children. One suggestion from Mrs. Grossman was to show children that they can make an important impact on people by doing small acts of kindness.

Please find resources attached from our School Psychologist Sharon Grossman and Director of HRS Dr. Mark Klien.

Helping Children Cope with Worrisome News copy.pdf

Thank you to the Forker Family for providing lots of snacks for our staff. It was so nice to have snacks while the teachers were working on writing the SBRCs this week. ! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

heart

The PTO is sponsoring a Happy Heart Project.  Each child is bringing home a baggie of paper hearts. Please have your child/children design their hearts and add a kind message.  All hearts should be returned to Fiske by February 5th so they can be displayed throughout our school.  Thank you Kim Eberling for creating this project for our community.

We need 35 more photos for PJ Day!

100 Photos = All school Pajama Day

Our incredible Student Council is at it again. They are creating a bulletin board for Fiske Health and Safety Heroes. The Fiske Student Council is asking our community  to take pictures of family members and/or friends wearing masks to be placed on their bulletin board.  The Student Council  wants to celebrate our community working together to keep everyone healthy and safe.  Please send a copy of your pictures to your child’s classroom teacher or email them to Mrs. McGregor at mcgregorr@wellesleyps.org. If we can gather 100 pictures then Fiske students will have an all school Pajama Day! Thank you
