Fiske Falcon

Fiske Families,

Thank you to Stacy Kennedy for joining the PTO meeting on Wednesday to talk with us about healthy eating habits for children.  A big takeaway was a child may need as many as 20 exposures to a new food before they will try it.  Another takeaway was when preparing a new food for children make sure a friendly food(one they like) is on the plate.  After Stacey’s informative talk I can think of one principal who may have to consider increasing her fruits and vegetables intake. Thank you Stacy!

Thank you toArmin Molaviand the entire PTO for the Fisketastic fleece vests that were purchased for all Fiske staff.  Our Fiske staff LOVE their vests!.

Last night the WPS hosted a WPS School Reopening Webinar Update. If you were unable to attend please click this link. For the presentation please click this link.

Reminders from our Nurse Mrs. Hindmarsh

With the warmer weather please remember to have your child bring an extra mask  (Masks will get wet from physical activity and the heat, and need to be changed)  and a water bottle to school every day.

Thank you!

Look what is new with music protocols!

Dear Fiske Families,

Dear Fiske Families,

As you know, during the winter months  singing and instrument playing have occurred over Zoom. Now that spring is in the air, I am very excited to get back outside with the students. However, the new guidelines mentioned in Dr. McDonald’s attached letter( Perf Arts Guideline Letter to Families.pdf )allows for singing and playing instruments indoors with ten feet distancing.

Band, Orchestra and Chorus will be able to resume rehearsals live! The plan is for Band, Orchestra and Chorus to take place in the gym. Band students will be spaced ten feet apart and remain masked unless playing.  Orchestra students will be able to resume in person and space six feet apart (with masks) as they are not blowing into their instruments. Our chorus has 40 students, so our plan is to see each class separately in the gym with ten feet of spacing, singing at a soft volume and remaining masked. The reason we are planning to do these instrumental ensembles in the gym rather than outside is because of the logistics of setting up chairs, stands and percussion instruments. Chorus will be held in the gym because the CDC has recommended singing at a soft volume making it difficult to hear them if we were outside.

As for general music classes, grades 3 and 4 students will be able to sing and play recorders outside with ten feet of spacing. All other grades will also be able to sing outside again, with ten feet of spacing. All singing will be done masked.

It’s a relief that we are moving in this positive direction. We are so excited for singing and instrument playing to spring into action in the next few weeks!

THE SECOND ANNUAL 21-DAY RACIAL EQUITY HABIT BUILDING CHALLENGE IS COMING…

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will launch the second annual 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge April 5-29. The 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge (aka the Racial Equity Challenge) is simple: You (along with other people in the community and across the US) commit to deepening your understanding of and willingness to confront racism for 21 consecutive days. At the very least, the Challenge will raise your awareness. But for many participants it goes beyond that and changes the way they see and interact with the world. Last year, we had 125 participants. Commit to this year’s challenge here, and save the date to return to our website on April 5 for Day 1! Please email dei@wellesleyps.org for any questions.
