Hello Hardy families,

Highlight from the past week:
*This past week was Massachusetts STEAM week. As part of this, students engaged in special STEAM activities tied to the theme of sustainability. For example, fourth graders did coding creating a small maze for a robot to navigate through while pushing a ping pong ball (storyline was the robot was moving the things to the recycling center!)

*This past week we collected donations for Cradles to Crayons. We will continue to have a collection bin at Hardy through November 10th for late donations.

*On Friday, we had our October All School Meeting, which was led by our fourth graders. The fourth grade classes taught us about the CASEL competency of self-awareness. Kudos to our student leaders for their efforts!

CASEL focus- Self-awareness
As part of our school-wide focus on the CASEL competencies, we will be focused on self-awareness through the rest of October and November.
The definition for Self-Awareness we use is the following:

SELF-AWARENESS: The abilities to understand one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values and how they influence behavior across contexts. This includes capacities to recognize one’s strengths and limitations with a well-grounded sense of confidence and purpose.

Conversation starters to consider using with your children:
*What did you do today that you felt really good at?  Did anything feel hard?
*What thoughts and feelings did you have when you were feeling really good at something?

*How did your body feel when you were doing something that felt hard?
Take a minute to watch this four minute video that explains self-awareness:

Hardy MCAS presentation
At the PTO meeting this past week, I presented an overview of the Hardy MCAS results. For those parents who were not in attendance, here is the presentation that was shared: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1FbEm-eZ1LXjyAARwRpxHB19GaT7sKI06zF1VSqN5PyM/edit#slide=id.p

News from the Hardy Library!
Hello families!
This year, our school library is looking for additional volunteers to help each week in the library.  Our library circulates hundreds of books a week that need to be checked in, re-shelved and sometimes repaired in order to be made available for students. There are several other tasks that are available like covering and labeling books, helping with shelf organization, assisting with book displays, helping with weeding, etc.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete this Volunteer Form and I will respond to you regarding available times. We are so grateful for your interest and would welcome your help in the library!!

Bike to School Day
Please join us for Hardy’s inaugural Bike to School Day this Wednesday, October 26th! Hopefully many families will bike to school.
As part of this special day, Mr. Guzzi is planning to meet families, who are interested, in a designated location and will lead this group on a bike ride to school. For more information, see link below.
