Dear Hunnewell Community,
I am so excited to see everyone back on the grounds and in the halls of Hunnewell! The building looks fabulous thanks to Larry and Tom and their two high school helpers, Randall and Ian. The teachers also deserve kuddos for organizing and decorating their classrooms and an additional thank you to the PTO, specifically Candace Lee, for overseeing the outside clean-up. The stage is set. All we need are the children.

As you know, we are welcoming some new staff to Hunnewell this year and having had the chance to get to know them over the past few weeks, I feel incredibly fortunate to have them here with us. For those of you that had the opportunity to meet Dr. Kim Pottratz last year, I am pleased to announce that she will be returning to Hunnewell as our school psychologist. Having worked at Hunnewell part-time last year, she is ready to hit the ground running. Dr. Corinne Mahoney is also joining us as a full-time TLC psychologist. We are incredibly fortunate to have two psychologists of their expertise supporting and enhancing the social and emotional learning of our children. I am also pleased to introduce Ms. Dianne Finn, our new school nurse. Dianne’s warmth, knowledge and commitment to collaboration made her an easy choice for this important role at Hunnewell.
We also welcome Megan Williams as the primary special educator in the Therapeutic Learning Center, Ms. Katie Roberts as our Speech Language Pathologist, and Ms. Lisa Mortarelli as our literacy specialist. Ms. Williams is a former colleague of mine from Lexington. She will be awarded her Master’s in Special Education this October from Lesley. Ms. Katie Roberts has worked in the Windsor, CT public school district since 2011 and has her Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Southern Connecticut University.  Ms. Lisa Mortarelli joins us from Sprague, where she has served as a beloved first and/or second grade teacher for years. Many of the teachers know Ms. Mortarelli and are thrilled to welcome her and benefit from her knowledge of and passion for literacy instruction. Also new to Hunnewell is Mr. Peter Knapp, Hunnewell alumnus, and our new art teacher. Mr. Knapp is a graduate of St. Michael’s college and he most recently taught art in Roxbury, MA. Last and certainly not least, we welcome back Ms. Ashley Kustka from a two-year leave of absence in Hanover, NH. Having spent some time with her over the last few weeks, I can see why the community is so excited to welcome her back.
Before concluding, I have to once again thank Amy for all that she does to keep Hunnewell running seamlessly over the entire year. We are all fortunate to have her run this show!
I look forward to seeing you all this Wednesday!
Sincerely,
Ellen
