Dear Hunnewell,I wish you all a very Happy New Year! Hope you were able to enjoy some rest and relaxation with friends and family over the break.
At Hunnewell, we are back in full swing. As we have officially crossed into the winter season, please send your children appropriately dressed to go outside. We have recommitted our efforts to get the children outside whenever possible!!
As we kick off 2016, I want to recognize our fifth grade volunteers for all of their good work supporting our arrival procedures at Hunnewell. Those that have volunteered are incredibly reliable and take their responsibilities seriously. I visited and stayed for their entire choral reheardal last Monday (BTW, they sound great!!) and invited those who did not initially sign-up that they still can. All they need to do is ask Ms. Mistrot for the form. We will take all the help we can get.
I also want to remind you the Helena Curtain is visting Wellesley this week. Helena is an author and leading researcher on implementing world language into the elementary curriculum. I have not had the privelege of meeting her, but understand she is not to be missed. I encourage you to attend her parent presentation at WHS on Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00pm.
Finally, you should know that I will not be at Hunnewell this week. I have been invited to attend a conference at the Harvard Graduate Schoool of Education with administrators from across Wellesley Public Schools. We will be looking at how to build collaborative teams in order to use student work to drive instruction. As a firm believer that schools need to be learning organizations for students and teachers, I am exctited to dive into this work. I thank the Wellesely Education Foundation for funding this opportunity. Please contact Amy Mistrot if you need to get in touch with me. Dr. Kim Pottratz and Dr. Corrine Mahoney, the school psychologists, will act as my designees in consult with Dianne Finn, our school nurse. Mr. Jeff Dees, principal of Upham, and Mr. Gerardo Martinez, principal of Schofield, have graciously agreed to support if needed.
