Dear Hunnewell Families,
The Hunnewell Book Fair at Wellesley Books was a HUGE success- thanks to you! Thank you so much for the very generous donations to the classroom libraries, to the specialists’ bookshelves, as well as the multiple copies of books we use to teach reading for our shared book rooms.
Teachers are introducing students to these new books for their libraries, and there is definitely an excitement about reading that is spreading beyond the classrooms. Hunnewell is adorned with bulletin boards promoting reading. Mrs. Bresnehan’s first graders have written book recommendations, and many Hunnewell students have gotten some great ideas to add to their pile of “must reads” by checking out this bulletin board. Thank you 1B!

Also, Ms. D’Esopo’s fifth grade class has ignited a book-reading frenzy with March Madness! Her fifth graders took suggestions from other classes, and narrowed down the list to the top 32 books. They are put into ‘brackets’, one book competing against another. If students have read these books, they can vote on which they liked better. Check out the brackets below, and encourage your fourth or fifth grader to read as many of these great titles as possible over the next few weeks! Students are already looking at the book choices and getting excited about them, which one to vote for, and talking to their fellow classmates about which one they thought was better and why. The book talk is certainly growing, as is the excitement for reading! Thanks 5D!

Happy Reading!Lisa MortarelliLiteracy SpecialistHunnewell School
