Dear Hunnewell,

A warm and special thank you to Katie Dexter for organizing and conducting a celebration of music this morning at Hunnewell! Our Hunnewell Band under the direction of our own Ms. Dexter has doubled in size and welcomed its youngest member, second grade percussionist, Leo Ventimiglia. They sounded fantastic! Ms. McCann then conducted our Hunnewell orchestra, which played a wide range of challenging pieces. It is truly amazing to think that third, fourth, and fifth graders can play with such ease and confidence. The program concluded with our fifth graders taking center stage. Ms. Dexter united this group of 53 individuals in song that brought tears of joy to proud parents. In a world that can at times overemphasize academic prowess, I am proud to work in a shcool and a district that continues its comiitment to the arts. Thank you Katie for allowing us to relax and enjoy an hour of music! Hunnewell is lucky to have you!!

I also want to give Katie a special shout out for allowing me to bring the Superintendent, members of the Board of Selectman, the School Committee, and the community into her combined kindergarten music class at the end of her day today. Every one of these people spoke of the engagement and pride these children had in showing of their musical prowess. They also commented on her wonderful bulletin board, “Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall, There is Music IN US ALL!”

Thank you to Katie D!
