On November 28, the WPS staff participated in a Professional Development Day. The morning began with our keynote speaker, Dr. Kathleen Steiner-Adair, author of The Big Disconnect, Protecting Childhood and Family in the Digital Age. Her presentation provided a great deal of food for thought. Terry Wechsler, Psychologist at Preschool of Wellesley Schools (PAWS), wrote a brief article summarizing Dr. Steiner-Adair’s work. I have attached it for you below.
While a date and time have not been confirmed, Dr. Steiner-Adair will offer a parent presentation in the new year.
As we all work to expose children to digital citizenship and better understand the risk and exposure of cyberbullying and screen time, I want to encourage you to attend a presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Englander, from the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center (MARC) in the WMS auditorium tomorrow night, Thursday, from 7:00-8:30 pm. I have heard that she is an incredibly engaging speaker and while Dr. Englander will focus on the impact of technology on middle school age children, I am certain there will be many take aways.
