Over the course of the year we practice three or four fire drills in collaboration with the Wellesley Fire Department. Today we had an unexpected fire alarm. I was proud of the children who quickly and quietly followed teacher directions. The teachers did an exceptional job moving the children to safety given that most classrooms were transitioning to, from and between lunch/recess. Hats off to all of Hunnewell!! Over the past couple of months, we have had a few other fire alarm trips due to an alarm malfunction. Dave Watkins, the electrician and safety officer from the Facilities Maintenance Department has been working make the necessary repairs and we believe all is fixed. Dave makes routine checks on the fire alarms after hours and will be sure to communicate any other issues. The fire department has also been excellent at responding to these alarms in swift order and staying until all is clear.
It gives me great peace of mind to know that we have such a collaborative effort in place to get everyone out of the building safely in the event that an evacuation is warranted.
