{"id":2778,"date":"2025-05-09T14:40:18","date_gmt":"2025-05-09T21:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/hunnewell\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2025-12-05T14:17:43","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T19:17:43","slug":"principals-message-32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/hunnewell\/2025\/05\/09\/principals-message-32\/","title":{"rendered":"Principal&#8217;s Message"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<p><strong>Dear Hunnewell Families,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-end=\"419\" data-start=\"222\">As we move through these final weeks of the school year, I wanted to pause and share a message that speaks to what we strive to build here every day\u2014not just strong academics, but strong character.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"547\" data-start=\"421\">I recently came across a simple, powerful list titled <em>\u201c10 Lessons I Want to Instill in My Kids.\u201d<\/em> It includes reminders like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-end=\"581\" data-start=\"551\">If you\u2019re thankful, show it.<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"617\" data-start=\"584\">If you love someone, tell them.<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"647\" data-start=\"620\">If you\u2019re wrong, fess up.<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"682\" data-start=\"650\">If you\u2019re stuck, ask for help.<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"717\" data-start=\"685\">If you see wrong, take a stance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-end=\"1039\" data-start=\"719\">These lessons echo what we believe at Hunnewell: that character matters. That kindness, accountability, courage, and compassion are every bit as important as math facts and reading fluency. Our classrooms, assemblies, morning meetings, and hallway conversations all serve as places where these life lessons come to life.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1379\" data-start=\"1041\">And it\u2019s not just words\u2014it\u2019s our kids <em>living<\/em> it. We see students helping one another up (literally and emotionally), asking great questions, owning their mistakes, and offering sincere apologies. We see them standing up for what&#8217;s right. And they learn this not only from us but from <em>you,&nbsp;<\/em>our parents and caregivers, who model it daily.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1604\" data-start=\"1381\">As we approach the end of this school year, let\u2019s keep partnering to reinforce these lessons. Let\u2019s celebrate the small wins, continue to nurture our students\u2019 hearts and minds, and close the year with strength and purpose.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1633\" data-start=\"1606\"><strong>Upcoming Dates to Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-end=\"1683\" data-start=\"1636\"><strong>Monday, May 13th<\/strong> \u2013 PTO Meeting at 6:30 PM<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1745\" data-start=\"1686\"><strong>Tuesday, May 14th<\/strong> \u2013 Final Student All-School Assembly 11:15 AM<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1800\" data-start=\"1748\"><strong>Wednesday, May 15th<\/strong> \u2013 Kindergarten Orientation 6:30 PM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-end=\"1916\" data-start=\"1802\">As always, thank you for your partnership, your care, and your unwavering support of our school and your children.<\/p>\n<p>Dare to Dream,<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Dees<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">School Nurse<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">The School Nurses, in conjunction with the Fitness and Health Department, will be conducting postural screening for the&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><span style=\"color:black\">5<\/span><span style=\"color:black;font-size:7.0pt\">th-<\/span><span style=\"color:black\">grade<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">&nbsp;students.&nbsp; This screening will be done during physical education classes the week of <strong>May 11th<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">The Commonwealth of Massachusetts mandates postural screening for all school-aged children in grades 5-9.&nbsp; The purpose of this screening is to find early signs of possible spinal problems during an adolescent\u2019s growth period.&nbsp; This screening is not diagnostic, but designed to identify young people who may need further evaluation.&nbsp; Early detection and prompt treatment of spinal issues can prevent problems from becoming severe.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">Each student is screened separately.&nbsp; For optimal viewing of the spine, your child\u2019s back should be bare.&nbsp; We suggest that the female students wear a sports bra or the top of a two-piece bathing suit, the day of the screening.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">If you do not wish your child to participate in the Postural Screening Program at school, *<strong>written documentation from your physician stating that your child has been screened within the last year* <\/strong>should be sent to the school nurse before screening.&nbsp; A recent physical examination with documentation that postural screening was done is acceptable.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">If your child has any unusual findings, you will be notified and asked to take your child to your physician for evaluation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\"><span style=\"color:black;\"><span style=\"font-family:times new roman,serif;\">Please do not hesitate to contact the school nurse if you have any questions or concerns.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0in;line-height:normal;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Hunnewell Families, As we move through these final weeks of the school year, I wanted to pause and share a message that speaks to what we strive to build here every day\u2014not just strong academics, but strong character.
