Content-based professional development sessions led by university faculty are the centerpiece of the Teachers as Scholars program. Participants in TAS seminars have the opportunity to reflect on and discuss academic ideas with colleagues who are typically outside their own grade level or subject area.
The seminars offered by Teachers as Scholars range from one to three days; they are typically eligible for Professional Development Points (PDPs).
Teachers as Scholars also organizes overseas educational trips.
Wellesley Public Schools has an annual Teachers as Scholars membership through which the district is allotted seats in their seminars. Since the number of seats is limited, Wellesley educators must receive approval from the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning prior to registering.
Criteria for requesting registration:
- You are beginning, at a minimum, your second year in Wellesley
- You have obtained pre-approval by your Department Head or Principal if the seminar you would like to attend will meet during the school day
Priority will be given to 1) teachers who have never previously attended Teachers as Scholars and 2) teachers who have not attended Teachers as Scholars in the last 3 years.

Once your registration is approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, you will be notified of the online registration process with Teachers as Scholars.
Please be sure to submit a Professional Leave Request Form and enter your absence into Absence Management if the course will take place during school hours. See the Professional Leave page for more information.
