About the Instrumental and Vocal Extension Program (IVEP)

As part of the K-12 Wellesley Public Schools Music Education curriculum, the Wellesley Public School District offers students the opportunity to take private voice and instrumental music lessons. Lessons are taught after school by highly qualified professional musicians, who have demonstrated excellence in their performing and teaching.

The mission of the Instrumental and Vocal Extension Program of the Wellesley Public Schools is three-fold:

  •  To help students develop a life-long love of music and joyful confidence in music-making through high-quality instruction on band and orchestra instruments and voice
  • To teach a body of core musical performance skills and techniques to a mastery level, through quality vocal and instrumental repertoire
  • To prepare all students for entry into and successful participation in school ensembles, and to support continued participation in these ensembles from elementary through high school.

Instrumental and Vocal Extension Program lesson fees:

We offer two semesters of 15 lessons each. A $25 registration fee has been included in the fees below.

  • 30 Minute Lessons: $475 (Tuition $450.00 + $25 Registration fee)
  • 45 Minute Lessons: $700 (Tuition $675.00 + $25 Registration fee)
  • 60 Minute Lessons: $925 (Tuition $900.00 + $25 Registration fee)

Chamber ensembles can be arranged with our IVEP Faculty. We also offer an Acoustic Chamber Ensemble for more advanced students who would like to explore other styles of music in an ensemble setting.

We offer two semesters of 12 sessions each. Each member of the ensemble must register. A $25 registration fee has been included in the fees below.

  • 30-minute Sessions:  $200 ($175 tuition + $25 registration fee)
  • 60-minute Sessions:  $375 ($350 tuition + $25 registration fee)

Important Information & Lesson Guidelines:

  • Lessons must be paid in full prior to starting lessons for the semester.
  • Lessons are scheduled directly through the private lesson teacher. For contact information for private lesson teachers, click on the corresponding lesson type above.
  • Payments are made online through Wellesley Public Schools; payment may not be made out directly to your private lesson teacher.
  • Students are expected to arrive on time for lessons; any time lost due to tardiness will not be made up. Lessons will conclude at the scheduled time, even if the student is late.
  • There are no make-up lessons for students who do not show up for their lesson.
  • If the student must miss a lesson, give his/her private lesson teacher 24-hour notice via email, text, or phone call, as a courtesy.
  • Once lessons begin begin for the semester, there will be no refund of tuition or fees.
  • IVEP lessons must take place at a Wellesley Public School District building; no exceptions can be made
  • IVEP lessons must take place after school Monday through Friday only
  • The IVEP program follows the academic calendar. Lessons are not given during school holidays.
  • Elementary only: I understand that I, or a designated responsible adult, must walk my student to and from their private lesson classroom.  I understand that I cannot drop off my child at the curb.
  • Elementary & Middle School:  I understand that my student may not be left at a school unattended or unsupervised before or after their private lesson.

How to Register for Music Lessons Online:

IVEP uses the same WebTrac payment system that is used for Wellesley Parks & Recreation, WPS Bus Fees, Athletics Fees, Wings and PAWS Preschool, so most families already have an account.

  • Click here to enter WebTrac, our online registration and payment system.
  • Look for the MEMBER LOGIN box.
    • If this is your first time logging in or you have forgotten your login information, click the appropriate link.
    • If you are creating a new account it will take 24-48 hours for your account to be verified
  • Once you are logged in the member login box will now show YOU ARE NOW LOGGED IN!
  • At the bottom of the screen select the category of Music Lessons for which you are registering; Music Lessons are divided into category by Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion, Piano, & Voice.
  • The next page will list the different instruments and the lesson durations (30-, 45-, or 60-minutes).
  • Click on the shopping cart next to your selection of instrument and lesson duration. There will be a green bar that comes up from the bottom of the page, click the ENROLL NOW button on the green bar.
  • The next page will list everyone in the household including adults. Select the family member to register for music lessons from the drop-down list. Then, click ADD TO CART.
    • If you get an alert about a grade conflict, click OK. Please be aware Strings and Piano are available for Kindergarten and up; Guitar, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, and Voice are available for Grade 4 and up. Click on the My Account tab at the top of the page and scroll down to Change Member Data. The next page will list all the household members, click on the first name of the family member you want to change; change to the correct grade level and click Finish. Click Done to go back to the home page and pick the lesson category.
  • Read and review the Activity Waiver and Lesson Guidelines and click AGREE at the bottom.
  • On the next page you will select the private lesson teacher, and answer the other activity registration questions.
    • If you do not know who the private lesson teacher is or if you need help selecting a teacher, you may indicate this by selecting “Not sure/help me choose”. Please do not indicate a teacher without speaking to them first about availability and scheduling. Click SUBMIT.
  • On the next page you will select a payment option.
    • You may choose to pay in full or through an installment plan.
    • Lessons must be paid in full prior to the first lesson.
    • You may pay with a debit card or credit card. Teachers may not be paid directly. You must pay for lessons online through the WebTrack System
    • Lessons are scheduled directly with the private lesson teacher.
  • Review your shopping cart and click PROCEED TO CHECKOUT.
  • Select the Credit Card type and click CONTINUE.
  • Enter in the payment information:
    • NOTE: If you are applying for Financial Assistance, change the “Amount To Be Paid Today” to the “Minimum Amount Due Today” of $25.
  • A receipt will be emailed to the email address on file.

Financial Assistance

Information and Forms for financial assistance can be found at https://wellesleyps.org/students-families/financial-assistance-information/.

  • Please register for 30-minute lessons and pay the $25 minimum fee.
  • Do not select Installment billing.
  • More advanced students may take a 45- or 60-minute lesson, but families will be responsible for covering the difference in fees.
  • Approval for tuition reduction is given by the business office and is based upon the outcomes of the financial assistance application process.
