Schofield School

Go Hawks

Hello Schofield Families,

Our third and fourth graders completed the Math MCAS Assessment this week.  Our fifth graders will wrap up MCAS testing with Science on Monday and Tuesday next week.  The completion of MCAS testing signals for me the final stretch of the school year.  The next few weeks are full of field trips, musical performances, visits from special guests, and showcases of learning.  We look forward to celebrating students and creating lasting memories. Please be sure to check out the dates on the calendar below.

Text Message Reminders:
Stay on top of all of the end-of-year school events by opting in to receive text message reminders from Principal Hoffman.  Simply text the below message associated with your child(ren)’s graduating class to the number 81010.   This will be used for reminders only and I will continue to share important information through School Messenger (PowerSchool). Standard text messaging rates will apply.

Around Schofield this Week:
Thanks to our PTO for bringing the North American Birds of Prey program to Schofield this morning.  Wingmaster, Jim Parks, had kindergarteners in awe of the barred owl that weighed  just one pound!  Students were so engaged and asked fantastic questions.

We also had a kindergarten Principal for the Day on Wednesday.  He read aloud to classes while in costume, made announcements, had important meetings with the custodian and office staff and even rewarded all students with six (ha!) minutes of extra recess.  He obtained celebrity status here at Schofield!

2023 Field Day:
We are looking forward to this year’s Field Day on Friday, May 26th.  Parents are invited to come and watch.  The schedule can be found using this link. I have been told that the most popular events for parents to observe are the class relays and the mini marathon.

Last Week of School:
Students’ last day of school is scheduled for Thursday, June 15th with an early dismissal at 12:00PM.  Please note that Wednesday, June 14th is a FULL day of school.  Please be sure to update PickUp Patrol for these two days so that we can make sure to dismiss students safely.

Fifth Grade Transition to WMS:
Last night, Kate Mahony, Department Head for Counseling at WMS, and other school counselors hosted a workshop for fifth grade families which included tips for the transition and a parent panel. In case you missed it, the session was recorded and can be viewed using this link: Gr. 5 workshop recording 5.18.23

I am looking forward to my son’s first fencing match this weekend.  I don’t really know anything about fencing yet, but am quickly turning into a superfan.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Jordan
