(NETS\u00b7T \u00a9 2008 International Society for Technology in Education: \u00a0Teacher Standards)<\/p>\n<p>Fourth grade students at Bates recently spent time discussing how to order groups of fractions along a number line with landmark numbers. \u00a0Their interactions, use of manipulatives and genuine &#8220;math talk&#8221;, while placing groups of fractions on number lines in a book created for them with the app Book Creator clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of technology integration with the iPad as a learning tool.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2015\/04\/ScreenShot2015-04-07at8.59.43AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wellesleyps.org\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2015\/04\/ScreenShot2015-04-07at8.59.43AM.png\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/book-creator-for-ipad-create\/id442378070?mt=8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Book Creator<\/a>\u00a0is an app that allows you to create ebooks that can be shared in a variety of ways. \u00a0Book templates can be created ahead of time for students and then shared with them to personalize. \u00a0In this case, students had an ePub file shared with them that contained pages with specific groups of fractions and identified landmarks along a number line at the top of each page. \u00a0Fractions could then be dragged to the number line in the order students thought they should be placed according to their size. \u00a0Later students selected one fraction on each page to orally\u00a0justify their conclusions with\u00a0detail. \u00a0These explanations were recorded and later shared with their teachers providing opportunities for teachers to hear mathematical thinking from each student in the class.<\/p>\n<p><u>Common Core Standards<\/u><br \/>\nExtend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering:<br \/>\n<a class=\"identifier\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box;
