Dear Upham Community,

Hello everyone! I am happy to report that the kids are wonderfully settled in and working very hard. During our morning assembly we had multiple students recognized for their effort and kindness. With all of the negative news and divisiveness out in the world, I am ever more hopeful for the kindness and fortitude that a younger generation is embracing. Our small little portion of the world is working hard at being kind, understanding differences, and showing persistence in overcoming obstacles. Thank you for sharing your children and allowing us to help shape them for the future.

Hardy/Upham Feasibility Study

The School Building Committee invites all members of the community to come hear about the Hardy/Upham feasibility study process and timeline, ask questions of the project consultants and learn about future opportunities to engage and provide feedback.

Topics will include the educational visioning process, key features of today’s elementary schools, the approach to sustainability and ways stakeholders will be included as the Town develops its plan to rebuild either the Hardy or Upham School in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).

Standards-Based Report Card

Please join Dr. Joan Dabrowski, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning along with members of the K-5 Standards-Based Report Card Steering Committee for an introduction to the Wellesley Public Schools K-5 Standards-Based Report Card (SBRC).

There are two options:

  1. Tuesday, October 15th, 6:15 pm WMS Library
  2. Thursday, October 17th, 9:00 am Wellesley Community Center

At this session, parents and guardians will learn about the SBRC development process, the SBRC features, and how it will be implemented during SY19-20. We hope you can join us.

Halloween Parade

We will continue our traditional Halloween parade on Thursday, October 31st. The parade will begin at 8:45 am and end at approximately at 9:15 am. Parents are encouraged to attend and can take pictures along the parade route. For new families to Upham. We have had a parade that allows for the children and staff to participate in an all school parade. Students are allowed to wear their Halloween costumes (No weapons please) for the parade and walk from Upham, down Wynnewood road, on the sidewalk of Bristol, back up Lowell to the front entrance of the school.

Students can either arrive with their costumes or change once they are here. They will change into regular clothes after the parade. Students will not wear their costumes throughout the day.

The Wellesley Police department will be available to help with traffic and safety.

If your family does not celebrate Halloween or recognize it, that is great. We will have activities for those children in the library.

MCAS

Last but certainly not least, if you are an Upham parent of a fourth and fifth grade student you should be receiving your child’s MCAS results (ELA/MATH) on Tuesday, October 15. If you have questions centered on the results or you have not received the mailing please contact me immediately.

Thank you for your support. It is an honor and tremendous privilege to work with your children each day.

Dare to Dream,

Mr. Dees
