Hello Upham Community,
Wow! What a magnificent beginning to the new school year. The first day of school was one of the best starts that I’ve witnessed. As the students arrived in the classrooms they acted as if it was an old pair of jeans and worked through the day in a very positive manner. It has been exciting to learn about our new friends and families. Our attendance as of today is 165. Our new teachers Mrs. Cohen (3rd Grade) and Ms. Berggren (5th Grade) have settled in and begun developing deep, lifelong relationships with their students. We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Cohen and Ms. Berggren. Way to go teachers! I am so proud of the students and the teachers. Upham is a wonderfully special place and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to serve both you and your children.
ALICE Training
On Wednesday, September the 15th we will be conducting our annual ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training for teachers. ALICE empowers our teachers to make good survival decisions should an attack occur. The Wellesley Police Department will be providing the training and assistance for this particular training. Students are NOT involved in this training. The WPD will be placing us in various safety scenarios and one of those includes a live shooter scenario. We ask that the playground NOT be used from 1:00-2:30 on Wednesday, September 15. If you have any concerns or questions please contact the office. I would be happy to discuss the ALICE training.
Back-To-School
Our Back-to-School Night will be on Wednesday, September 29 from 6:00-7:15 PM. This will be done through our Zoom platform. I will provide a Principal’s Welcome from 6:00 until 6:15. Grades 3-4-5 will present from 6:15 until 6:45. Grades K-1-2 will present from 6:45 until 7:15. The classroom teachers will be presenting to you their classroom procedures, management, and curriculum for the upcoming year. Upham PTO
Please join the PTO this Sunday, 9/12, from 5 – 6 pm on the Upham playground for ice cream and playground time to celebrate the start of the school year! All are welcome – bring the whole family.
