Hello Upham Community,

Change is a difficult thing for all of us to deal with. It’s the fear of the unknown, not being in control, or not being certain of what may or may not happen. What I can tell you is that “change” will always occur and our response to it is really what matters most. For me, I want to make sure that no matter what direction is decided, your children are always the focal point, always.

The Upham students are a special group of students and it is my responsibility to make sure they are safe, having fun, and given a rigorous learning experience.

As we move forward the Upham teachers and especially the principal will hold tight to what we’ve always done for this learning community. The children will come first, period!

Math Support Program

This year we will have a new supplemental math support program that focuses on math growth and achievement particularly for students in grades 2 and 3. Students identified as needing additional support in math may be receiving one or more of the following academic interventions from our elementary math paraprofessionals:

  • one on one academic support

  • small group support focused on foundational math skill-building

  • general classroom support (in the classroom during math block)

Should your child be identified for one on one or small group support, you will be notified.

Here are some ways to support your child in math at home:

Halloween Parade

I am glad to announce that we will continue our long tradition of our Upham Halloween Parade. The parade will take place on Friday, October 29 at 8:50 AM. Our parade route will begin at the front of the building, walk down Wynnewood, onto Bristol, and then up Lowell returning to the building. We will have the WPD to help with traffic control. I fully understand that some families will not participate in the parade. We will have an alternate activity for those students not participating. I hope to see you there!

Surveillance Screening

Our Surveillance screening for COVID-19 will begin on Tuesday, October 5. It is a nasal swab screening and will take seconds to complete. It is for those families that opted in to be part of the Surveillance screening. The testing will be conducted by CIC Health, a health tech company specializing in COVID-19 testing. If you have any questions please contact the office.

Thank you for all of your support, especially through this recent situation. It is greatly appreciated.

Dare to Dream,

Mr. Dees
