Term 2 MidtermYIP – A Really Cool Opportunity for Students
An exciting opportunity is being offered in Wellesley, The Youth in Philanthropy program – also known as YIP. YIP helps Wellesley students develop the knowledge and skills to become community leaders. Throughout the program, students learn the importance of the nonprofit sector and giving back to their own community. Participants form their own Board of Trustees and have the opportunity to run for leadership positions, fundraise for the program, visit local organizations, and distribute grants. This new program, offered by The Fund for Wellesley, is open to high school students who live in or attend school in Wellesley. Participants will:• Learn leadership skills• Assess community needs• Understand nonprofit operations and impacts• Raise funds to support their efforts• Evaluate and prioritize funding requests• Make grantmaking and charitable gift decisions• Positively affect their communitiesThe 2015 program will meet on Monday evenings (7-8:30 p.m.), January through May, at the Wellesley Free Library- HS Study Room.
