I’m writing to you today to let you know how the High School plans to manage this week in light of the funeral services scheduled for our Guidance Counselor Rosanne Sannicandro. The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. George’s Catholic Church in Framingham. There will be approximately 85 staff members from the high school attending. For a point of reference, we have a staff of 172 full and part time teachers here. We do plan to run a full school day on Wednesday and we will have supervision for the students. The timing of the service means that we know blocks 2, 3, and 4 will definitely be affected. We have made a contingency plan for block 5 just in case, though we think that plan won’t be necessary.
What it means for you is that many, but not all, of our 11th and 12th grade classes will be cancelled blocks 2, 3, and 4 on Wednesday. Please do not assume that your student’s class is cancelled though. Students should check in with their individual teachers to be certain, as many of our teachers have unselfishly offered to stay at school to help run the day. Remember, the other blocks of the day will run as normal and all 9th and 10th grade classes will meet.
We have generous volunteers from the Middle School and Central Office who are also coming to help us manage the building for the day. The phone lines for the house offices will likely go to voicemail during the midmorning time, but the front office will be staffed to handle student and family issues that might arise.
If you need to dismiss your child for the funeral on Wednesday, please call in to your house office on Tuesday if at all possible. Students can be dismissed the day of the funeral, but it will help us to be able to handle as many of these as we can tomorrow. We also suggest that if your child is planning on attending the funeral that you attend with them if you can. Attending a funeral with friends may sound like a good idea for a teenager, but our experience has been that attending as a family provides better support and is more appropriate.
Also, given that we suspended tests and quizzes this past Friday and today, we have decided to extend our first term. The term was scheduled to end on Friday the 4th. It will now end on Monday the 7th. Term 1 grades will be posted online November 16th.
Finally, I just want to say thank you to so many of you have reached out to me and the school to offer your support. The outpouring has really been tremendous. I’m not at all surprised that people in this community have been so caring. We are all appreciative of it.
