Dear Families,

Believe it or not, it is with heavy heart that I write to you again today. Late last night the Leonhardt family received word that their son Nick (WHS class of 2014) died suddenly. Since Nick was living in Utah at the time of his passing, the family is still trying to make all their official connections as I write you this note. We did not make an announcement of any type to the students today. My hope is that you will inform your children based on this notification tonight. I have attached a handout from Drs. Mark Kline and Rob Evans from Human Relations Service here in town that could be helpful for you in speaking to your children.

Nick’s brother Bobby is a 12th grader here and his sister Raluca is a 10th grader here. The school has been in close contact with the family to make sure we are doing everything possible to support those two students.

Our Guidance staff spent much of today preparing to support any other students to whom this news was upsetting. We have school psychologists, adjustment counselors, and other personnel available to support our students as they need it. Please advise your children to go to their house offices if they are worried about themselves or a friend. The students can, of course, speak to any adult in the high school if they are in need of greater support. Do not hesitate to contact us directly if you have concerns about your students. We are here to help.

As always, the outpouring of support for the Leonhardt family and for us here at school has been great and it is much appreciated. Thanks to all of you.

All my very best,
