Dear Parents and Guardians of Ninth and Tenth Grade Students,

Please join us for an informational meeting about the summer 2018 World Challenge trip to Southern Tanzania. The meeting will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the Faculty Dining Room of the High School.

Wellesley has a long relationship with World Challenge. World Challenge provides a unique opportunity for your child. Participating students work together and take the lead. Before the expedition students research the destination, help plan the itinerary, raise funds, set goals and work on their fitness. On expedition students trek, explore, and perform community service. They manage the budget and arrange travel and accommodations. By taking charge, students develop key life and leadership skills.

Here is what some recent participants wrote about their experiences:

  • It’s really scary to leave your family, friends, and country for a month, but being separated from them allowed me to focus on me. [The trip] allowed me to step into a leadership position, and find out what I could do on my own.
  • I was really affected seeing the environment that people live in and how life there differentiates from our own. I would tell anyone considering going on an expedition to take the leap and do it.
  • The treks forced me to put mind over matter and keep pushing through, even when I was tired. I appreciated how active we were and the sense of accomplishment I felt at the end of each day.
  • This was my first trip to a developing nation, and only my second time traveling to a foreign country. Meeting and interacting with all types of people showed me the similarities that united us as well as the differences that made each of our cultures unique.
  • Never before had I had so much responsibility. Being the leaders allowed us to design and customize our own trip to make it the best experience possible.
  • Ultimately, the World Challenge expedition is an incredible experience because of the lessons it will teach you about yourself, your teammates, and the world.

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting. Please RSVP by January 31.
