The Wellesley High School Performing Arts Department presents the Moving Company in “Footnotes,” a collaborative dance performance bringing together dancers from local schools and professional dance companies in a sharing and informative setting.  Student and faculty choreographies will be showcased.  A variety of dance styles will be featured including a modern jazz piece choreographed by guest choreographer, Hannah Petrarca.  The Wellesley Middle School Junior Moving Company (directed by Lauren Schneider) and the Mini Movers from Sprague Elementary School (directed by Kara Sullivan) will take the stage to round out the K-12 dance experience. Students from Dana Hall School (director Devon Fitchett), Cambridge School of Weston (director Nailah Bellinger) and Rhode Island College (under the direction of Assistant Professor, Jessica Pearson) will also be performing.  This year “Footnotes” welcomes Always Be Dancing: Flamenco for Every/Body to the stage under the direction of Eve Costarelli.  This flamenco program is designed for dancers and non-dancers alike to enrich their lives through the passionate art of flamenco.  Through historical context, dance technique and creative expression, Ms. Costarelli uses flamenco to build self-esteem, coordination and resilience. This lineup promises to make for a diverse and dynamic “Footnotes” performance.

Members of the Wellesley High School Moving Company will perform dance pieces choreographed by student choreographers and by company director, Janet Sozio.  The focus of Moving Company is to expose both dancers and audience to a variety of dance styles.  Those included in this year’s performance are Contemporary Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, and African.  Student works include pieces choreographed by seniors Destiny Edwards, Nicole Franklin, Paloma Okunbor, Kayla Reid, and Alana Womack.  Junior Shyann Chalmus is also making her choreographic debut.  With a wide array of dance styles represented, this year’s concert will provide the audience an evening of exciting and entertaining performance.

“Footnotes” will be held at the Katherine L. Babson Jr. Auditorium at Wellesley High School on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:00 PM.  Admission:  Adults $10.00; Children $5.00; WPS faculty/ staff and senior citizens free.
