15 February 2019
Dear Wellesley High School Community,
Before you settle in to your well deserved February break, I wanted to write and let you know about the hiring process we have in full swing for our new Assistant Principal. The reason for our search in the first place is that the venerable Lynne Novogroski is taking her retirement this June after 49 years of dedicated service to the Wellesley Public Schools. Replacing her is impossible of course, but we are doing our best.
There were just under 70 applicants for the job. Over the past two weeks a team of 19 teachers, parents, counselors, students, and administrators interviewed 11 of them and now we have narrowed that list to four. Here is a quick sketch on each of them and with their finalist date at the end of each bio.
2019 Wellesley High School Assistant Principal Finalists
In alphabetical order:
- Ms. Jodi Cohen – Jodi has been a Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Marine Biology at Newton North High School for the past twenty years. Additionally, she is the Chair of Newton North’s Chemical Health Committee and Advisory to their Black Leadership Advisory Council. She says she is passionate about both these roles. Finalist date: Tuesday March 5th.
- Ms. Ann Dever-Keegan – Ann is the current Assistant Headmaster at Dover Sherborn High School. Previous to that she was the Dean of Students at Norwood High School and began her career as a Health and Wellness Teacher. At DS she oversees MCAS, the master schedule, mid years and final exam weeks. She talks about how much she enjoys collaborating with her staff. Finalist Date: Tuesday, February 26th.
- Ms. Jillian Kelton – Since 2014 Jillian has been the Director of Student Services at TechBoston Academy. She was previously a guidance counselor. In this role she is the chief administrator of the 9th grade, and talks about how she uses a whole child focus to supervise student behavior on a regular basis. She is also in charge of scheduling and has consulted around the city of Boston at other schools in this work. Finalist Date: Wednesday February 27th.
- Ms. Sarah Redbord – Sarah has been the Vice Principal at Framingham high school since 2004. Prior to that she was a high school math teacher for 8 years. In her current role she makes use of her statistics background to analyze data to help the school serve students from a wide range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. She says she is particularly interested in finding the reasons why some students struggle to find success. Finalist Date: Monday March 4th.
We would like to invite you to come meet the candidates on their finalist days. Each of them will have a full day of interviews during the two weeks following the break. I’ve attached a schedule of the days below. We would love to have you come ask questions and listen to them in order to give us your feedback about who you think the next Assistant Principal at Wellesley High School should be. Your thoughts are extremely valuable to us. We’d love for you to come for every candidate, but please don’t feel like you shouldn’t come because you can only make one or some of the dates.
Thank you so much for the support. I will write to you again once the process is complete and a candidate has accepted the position.
