Happy Friday, everyone,

On Tuesday we had our first really challenging weather day of the year which forced us to run lunch inside the building for the first time.  You never know how a plan is going to work until you execute it, but I’m happy to report the kids and staff did a great job.  The lunches went off without a problem.  We were able to safely space kids throughout our large spaces so kids could eat at desks inside.   Obviously, there are a lot more of these days coming, so it was a good test to pass.

This week was also the first week of Covid- 19 surveillance testing for the High School Staff. We will run this weekly during a 10 week trial period.  We will be offering the surveillance pool testing for students in another week and more information will be coming soon from the district about how that will all work. I want to express my sincere and deep appreciation for the generosity of the community and Wellesley Education Foundation for making this possible. It is not lost on the staff and I how fortunate we are to be in a town that would do this thorough a job to ensure the students’ and our safety.  Thank you.

I have been getting lots of reports of students not wearing masks or physically distancing in the hours they are outside of school.  I’ve been largely pleased with how well students have done with our safety protocols in the building, but in the community, I keep hearing it is a different story. Please help us with this messaging at home so we can keep the high school open for the entire year.

Please note a couple of key dates.

Wednesday, October 21st there will be a PTSO meeting where Tim Eagan from the Classical and Modern Language Department and Elisa Morris of the Mathematics Department will be live with us to talk about their department offerings and progressions here. That meeting will be at 9:00 a.m. and the zoom link will be sent out ahead of time by our PTSO.  To follow the work of our dedicated PTSO volunteers you can go on their website and subscribe to their newsletter here

Wednesday, October 28th is when our “back to school” messages will go live on the teacher Canvas pages and at 6:30 that evening I will give a brief live welcome message and I will also do a tutorial on how to access Canvas to find the right videos.

Tuesday, November 3rd is election day of course and we will be running on a half day schedule in the district. So, the 3rd of November will be a Wednesday 1/2 day schedule and the 4th of November we will run a Tuesday schedule.

Finally, the PTSO is running an election for parents who would like to serve on the WHS school council.  The School Council is made up of teachers, students, community members, administration, and parents to make changes to the school handbook and advise the principal on the school improvement plan. We will be emailing you electronic ballots in the next week, thank you for your support.

Have a great weekend.

Best,

Jamie
