Dear Families,
I hope this letter finds you all enjoying one last moment of summer, though as I type this the high school is already buzzing with student-athletes, school counselors, and administrators busily preparing for the start of the new school year.
Like many of you, the summer for the Chisum family was all about our three kids. I enjoyed a five day road trip with my rising Wellesley High Senior looking at various colleges and trying to strike the balance between being a helpful dad and saying too much. I’m buckling up for this senior fall! I also spent a lot of time sitting on the sidelines of baseball fields around the region watching my rising 10th grade son. Thankfully, I love the game and it never hurts to change seasons, so I’m looking forward to the fall. My youngest is entering middle school this fall and spent many, many hours riding horses this summer. This made her happy and lightened my wallet. My wife and I were somehow able to see each other in between the comings and goings, spending time with good friends and family along the way.
At the high school this summer we had thirty or so faculty members attend a two day training with a focus on how to best align our courses and include student voices on a regular basis in our classes. This is all part of our continued exploration of how to best develop the independent learners we envisioned when the district created its’ Profile of a Graduate several years ago. We plan on continuing that work through the school year with the entire staff.
As an extension of the concept of building independent learners at WHS we also want to raise consciousness around taking responsibility for the energy we all bring into the building. We want the environment at WHS to be a healthy one for all of us so this year we’ll remind students their words and behaviors matter.
Below are some helpful reminders for the return to school.

Fall Athletics have already begun today, but if you have any questions with the tryout or registration process please contact our Athletics Department here at the high school. (781) 446- 4614.
Parking Note: The students should already know this, but parking is for seniors only and is by lottery only. We only have about 70 spots available for students total and we run a lottery each semester. No other students are allowed to park in our lot.
Welcome back to everyone. We’re excited for the new year to get started and look forward to seeing everyone back at school a week from Wednesday. There’s still some time for kids to finish up any summer reading and homework, but not too much!
Be well.
Best,
Jamie
