Dear Families,\u00a0<\/div>\n

Well, welcome to fall. The thermometer at my house read 33 degrees this morning and when it starts to get this cold in the fall we all know the engine of the new school year is up and running at full force.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I want to say thank you to so many of you for coming out for our Back to School Night last night. I got to experience the evening as an Advisor with my own students\u2019 parents, a co-teacher with parents of students in my English class, and as a principal wandering the halls in and out of classrooms over the course of the evening.\u00a0My interactions with you were filled with energy and positive reports, though I will always remind families one of the reasons we have this night is so you feel more comfortable reaching out to our teachers, counselors, and administrators if you do have any questions or concerns.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I need to take a moment to thank our student volunteers last night who made sure no one got terribly lost trying to find their classrooms. I want to thank Alice Goodrich and Cheryl Wheeler , two of our school social workers, for leading the organization of our Wellness Fair in the cafeteria last night.\u00a0I hope families had the chance to stop by and get a deeper look into some of the supports we have for students in this community.\u00a0I also have to thank all the teachers for bringing such thoughtful and positive energy to their presentations late last night after a long day at the office.\u00a0<\/div>\n

All in all, I left the building last night energized by the entire Wellesley High School community coming together last night in service of our kids.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Homecoming Dance Safety<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Wellesley High School\u2019s Second Annual Homecoming Event will be held the weekend of October 24th and 25th.\u00a0Our plan is to sell 600 tickets for the dance on Saturday night.\u00a0For that event we are going to have two locations with half the students in the cafeteria and half in our gym.\u00a0This is a lot of ground to cover and a lot of students to keep track of at a single dance.\u00a0For these reasons we will be using breathalyzers for every student who attends the dance.\u00a0We believe using breathalyzers is an essential tool for helping us keep the students as safe as possible at this event.\u00a0We also used breathalyzers last year and we had a very successful event.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Staff Safety Training will take place next Thursday 16 October.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our staff will be participating in our annual safety training run by our colleagues at the Wellesley Police Department this coming Thursday afternoon.\u00a0This is an intense training session that requires us not have any students in our building from 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm.\u00a0Athletics and Performing Arts have both been made aware of this.\u00a0Students should not plan to be in the building that afternoon for any reason during that hour.\u00a0Thank you for your cooperation ahead of time.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday was Step Up Day\t<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On step up day each of the grades does something different.\u00a0This Wednesday we had seniors working on college essays with our English Teachers, meeting with College Reps, Military recruiters, school counselors and about 60+ of them were taking the SATs here in the building. Hopefully this really helped them, particularly as the November 1st deadline for Early Decision at many schools approaches.\u00a0Our juniors took the PSATs here and that test went off without a hitch.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The sophomores had a class, an intervention block with their teachers, and then got to come to the auditorium to hear a presentation by Paralympian Chris Waddell<\/a>. Chris spoke to the kids about the name tags we all wear, some we put on ourselves and some others give us whether we want them or not.\u00a0His takeaway line for them was, \u201cIt is not what happens to you, it\u2019s what you do with what happens to you.\u201d<\/div>\n

The ninth graders also had class and an intervention block and then they went to the gym to hear campaign speeches from 18 different students who wanted to become a class officer for this year.\u00a0Putting yourself out there and running for office as a 9th grader is a brave thing to do and it is even braver to stand in front of your classmates and give them a speech about why you think you\u2019re the right kind of person to lead them. I want to compliment all the brave 9th graders who ran for class office whether you won that election or not (we only have 4 officers).\u00a0Thank you.\u00a0<\/div>\n

We really got a lot out of the ordinary done during our \u00bd day on Wednesday. It was a great day.\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Homecoming is just TWO weeks away, and we have so many amazing events planned for everyone!<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n

Friday 10\/24 @ 6 PM:<\/strong>\u00a0Football Game “Under the Lights!” <\/strong>Enjoy raffles and a chance to kick a field goal at halftime. Bring the whole family for a fun night out.<\/div>\n

Saturday 10\/25 @ 11 AM\u20132 PM:\u00a0Community Day on Hunnewell Fields<\/strong> with 20+ clubs and teams running games, raffles, food trucks, music, and activities for all ages.<\/div>\n
