Wellesley Elementary students in Grade 2 will begin a new year of learning to expand their repertoire of visual art knowledge. Grade 2 art students begin to focus on using line to create drawings from observation, coloring mixing and expressive use of color in their 2D work. 3D work, utilizes a variety of clay handbuilding techniques, including pinch pots, slabs, and proper joining methods. Throughout the school year students begin to understand color relationships, primary, secondary,warm and cool, along with size and shape relationships within 2D and 3D compositions. At the same time, students are still creating and building their fine motor skills of hand eye coordination and hand strength all while having fun experimenting and exploring art materials being introduced each week in the art studio.

Mr. Corey has been a member of the Wellesley Public Schools Art Department since 2015. He is currently the art teacher at the Sprague Elementary School. In the past Mr. Corey has taught art at the middle school and high school level.
Mrs. Cosgrove has been teaching art in Wellesley since 2007 at Fiske Elementary. Her passion is teaching young artists to learn the basic concepts of visual art. She loves to see their growth as artists from kindergarten through fifth grade. Mrs. Cosgrove went to Lesley University and The Art Institute of Boston. She has her Masters in Art Education. Outside of school Mrs.Cosgrove enjoys painting in acrylics and spending time with her husband and two children.
Mrs. Kess received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and her Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. She has been teaching at Hardy Elementary School since 2015. Throughout the years she has also had the opportunity to teach at Sprague, Upham and most recently Bates.
Mrs. Kess loves teaching at the elementary level where she has the incredible opportunity to work with students for six years, developing long lasting relationships while building foundational visual art skills. Her favorite projects to teach are collage and printmaking.
Mr. Knapp has been teaching full time at the Elementary level for over a decade. He has moved around between many elementary schools in the Wellesley district, but spends most of his time at Hunnewell School. Mr. Knapp loves working at the elementary level where students are first introduced to visual arts.
Mx. T received their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education with a minor in Environmental Sustainability from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Mx. T loves working with elementary students, introducing them to new art materials, and watching these young artists grow and develop their own artistic styles. Mx. T’s favorite projects to teach are ceramics, fibers, and printmaking. In Mx. T’s personal art practice, they make homemade paper from recycled fibers, experiments with wood burning, as well as impressionistic landscape painting. Outside of school and art, Mx. T loves to go hiking with their dog Bean, play video games, and cook new recipes.
