Wellesley Elementary students in Grade 4, will learn a new set of techniques and hone their skills from past years. Grade 4 focuses on learning to create more complex compositions using depth, perspective, value, and/or cropping methods. Grade 4 students also begin to utilize more advanced clay handbuilding techniques, including pinched forms, slabs, and coils. The understanding of various types of media and how they can be combined to create a cohesive piece of art begins to come into play as well. Lastly, Grade 4 students begin to understand the color relationships of not only primary, secondary colors on the color wheel, but tertiary, analogous warm and cool, complementary, and tints and shades are introduced. Grade 4 students also continue to create and build their fine motor skills of hand eye coordination and hand strength all while having fun experimenting with new art materials and their skills each week in the art studio.
