Art, Books, & Creativity (A.B.&C.) is perfect for new and repeat students interested in exploring the rich tradition of bookmaking from cover-to-cover. Instruction in A.B.C. covers the history of bookmaking, creative sketching and writing exercises, and the fundamentals of bookmaking and book arts using a variety of techniques. Students have the opportunity to explore techniques in bookbinding and bookmaking, including: folded and sewn structures, pop-ups, sculptural, Japanese stab binding, and Tunnel Books. Students make use of collage, image transfer, monoprinting, and simple block printing techniques for creating original Artists’ Books.

Thom has been the PreK-12 Director of Art since joining the Wellesley Public Schools in 2004. Over his 30-year teaching career he has taught at Primary, Secondary, and the College levels. He has a B.S. in Journalism from The University of Kansas, a B.F.A. in Printmaking and Graphic Design from Massachusetts College of Art (Mass Art), and a M.S.A.E. from Mass Art. He lives in Wellesley with his wife and their two children who are alums of the Wellesley Public Schools.
