Principal's Message and Introduction

February 2024

Dear WMS Families,

It is with great pleasure that I present to you our Wellesley Middle School (WMS) Program of Studies for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.  Over the years, our staff has worked hard to ensure that our school structure, schedule and courses offer children the appropriate level of depth and breadth in their middle school years.  We are proud of our offerings, and work with students and their families to create an effective schedule that fits each individual’s needs.  Our philosophy at WMS is that children experience academic, social, and emotional growth through a richly developed curriculum.  The content of this book will aid in communicating what WMS has to offer.

As students start to plan their programs, staff will help them create a schedule that balances required, priority, elective and/or intervention courses that meet their needs.  Each student is unique, and our goal is to provide the necessary tools for future success. In Grades 6 and 7, a teaming model that includes math, English, social studies and science, and priority/elective courses, help expose students to required academic courses while building a solid foundation in areas such as world languages, music, technology, engineering and/or visual arts.  As students progress to Grade 8, teaming is still the structure for math, English, social studies and science, but elective options increase as consideration is given to the high school transition as well as college and career goals.  In Wellesley, we aim to cultivate a well-rounded student who will contribute to our greater 21st century and global world.

Together, we plan to engage students in a meaningful year of strong growth, learning and integration into our WMS school culture. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, our assistant principals or our WMS Main Office staff.  I look forward to working with you in the upcoming school year 2024-2025!

Sincerely,

Mark T. Ito
