Biography

Amy Johnson Wensink began studying cello at the age of nine. She attended Oberlin College and Conservatory, earning a bachelor’s degree in cello performance and a bachelor’s degree in biology. She went on to receive her master’s degree in cello performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music and a master’s degree in ecology from Rice University. Ms. Wensink has performed with many orchestras, including the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and the Omaha Symphony where she served as acting associate principal. She performs every August at the Peninsula Music Festival (WI) where she has been associate principal since 2004. Currently she is an active free lance musician in the Boston area, appearing with many orchestras and chamber ensembles in the area including regular performances with the Boston Modern Chamber Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking, spending time with her husband and two daughters, and watching New England Patriots football.
