Kevin Virgilio » Performing Arts Education

Hailed by the New York Music Daily for his “carefree and soulful” sound, Kevin A. Virgilio is a Boston-based trombonist and educator whose performances run the gamut of contemporary and classical styles. An active freelance musician, Dr. Virgilio recently appeared with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Boston Annex Players, Opera Cambridge, the New York Festival Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale, the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, and the Westchester Oratorio Society.

Dr. Virgilio plays regularly in local musical theater productions, including West Side Story, In the Heights, A Christmas Carol, An American in Paris, Disney’s Frozen, and The Music Man. He is currently on faculty in the public schools in Brookline, Needham and Wellesley, and has held faculty positions at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Luzerne Music Center, and with the Handel and Haydn Society.

Included among his many appearances as a trombone soloist are the East Coast premiere of Tōru Takemitsu’s Fantasma/Cantos II with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra, Blue Bells of Scotland with the New Horizons Ensemble, and a recital for the Asian Classical Music Initiative. Dr. Virgilio is a contributing scholar with the Scandinavian Cultural Institute, the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies, and the International Trombone Association, and is a guest lecturer at universities and cultural institutions across the United States. Kevin also enjoys training for road races with his running club for wind instrumentalists, “Run With the Winds.”
