Dr. Sean Mix
Biography
Dr. Sean Mix is a frequent guest saxophonist with
orchestras throughout the Northeast, including Boston
Modern Orchestra Project, Boston Landmarks Orchestra,
Odyssey Opera, Plymouth Philharmonic, and many more.
He is also a founding member of Jamaica Plain
Saxophone Quartet, which since 2017 has presented
innovative and diverse performances at concert halls,
libraries, senior centers, churches, sailboats, and public
spaces throughout New England. He won the Third Prize
in the 2016 American Prize competition for Instrumental
Soloists, and was a semifinalist in the 2014 Jean-Marie
Londeix International Saxophone Competition.
Dr. Mix holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in woodwind
performance from Boston University. He also studied at
New England Conservatory of Music (MM, GD) and the
University of Southern California (BM). In addition to his
work at WPS, he is a member of the music faculty at the
Natick Public Schools, Dana Hall School, and St. Mark’s
School. He is an Endorsing Artist for Conn-Selmer, Inc.
and Selmer Paris saxophones.
