Carrie FurnissVoice Teacher, Alternative styles and Jazz
Carrie is a vocalist, composer, and educator hailing from Chicago, Illinois. She moved to Boston in 2014 to pursue a master’s degree in jazz vocal performance at the New England Conservatory and graduated in 2016. At NEC, Carrie studied under the direction of Dominique Eade, Anthony Coleman, and Ran Blake. Carrie delves into jazz, pop, rock, musical theatre, and classical idioms. Currently, she leads two bands that perform her original compositions and has performed at local venues like The Middle East, Jordan Hall, Great Scott, Paradise Rock Club, and The Lilypad. Carrie is the recipient of three downbeat awards: “Outstanding Jazz Performance”, “Outstanding Blues/Pop/Rock Performance”, and “Outstanding Original Composition for Jazz Small Group”. In lessons, she can focus on repertoire, audition material, music theory, vocal improvisation, and original compositions based on the students’ interests.
