Greg Simonds
Biography
Percussionist and Timpanist Gregory Simonds has been a member of the Portland Symphony Orchestra since 2010, holding the position of Section Percussionist. In addition to his position in Portland, Mr. Simonds is a regular substitute and extra musician with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Lexington Symphony, Orchestra of Indian Hill, New Bedford Symphony, and an active freelancer in the Boston area. Previous positions include a Section Percussion post with the Monterrey Symphony in California and an associate membership as Percussionist with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. A regular performer with Opera and Theatre productions throughout New England; recent engagements have included performances with the Company Theatre in Norwell, MA; PORT Opera in Portland, ME; and Opera North in Lebanon, NH. A native of Albany, New York, Mr. Simonds was very excited to join the Boston Percussion Group as its newest member in 2015; completing his first performance with the group in February of that year. In addition to his performance career, Mr. Simonds is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Boston University where he studies with Boston Symphony timpanist Tim Genis.
