P.A.W.S. UPDATES:

Wellesley Police Visit to P.A.W.S.

This week we welcome Office Kathy Poirier from the Wellesley Police Department to P.A.W.S.! Officer Kathy visited each classroom Tuesday, and will be back on Friday to visit the M, W, F classes and PK8. Officer Kathy read a story to each class yesterday, and will be coming by from time to time, to say hello to the children and to visit with our preschool friends.

P.A.W.S. Safety Update

As you all may know, the school security package passed at Town Meeting last week. For P.A.W.S. this will mean a new PA system, two walkie-talkies with direct communication to the WPD, cameras in hallways and outside the P.A.W.S. building, and new, more-secure classroom doors. The improved infrastructure is just one piece of our security plan.

The other piece of our plan is the training and practicing of our safety drills and safety procedures. One of the first lines of safety is keeping our doors locked and knowing who is in our building, which is why staff wear ID badges and we ask visitors to wear badges, too. One new practice moving forward will be for Isabel to ask all visitors to give their name and reason for visit before allowing each visitor into the building. The reason for this shift in practice is that it was raised at Town Meeting that we do not have consistent visitor procedures. This will now be a consistent practice across all ten school buildings. While this change may feel awkward at first, I think we can all agree that student safety makes this extra step worth the extra effort.

We want to reinforce that our doors are open in spirit, although they are locked physically, to ensure that everyone at P.A.W.S. is kept safe and secure to learn, grow, and develop! Let us know if you have any questions or thoughts!

Dates to Remember:
