Dear P.A.W.S. Families,
Reminder! This afternoon, we hope you’ll join us for the ~
Halloween Pizza Playdate
at the Barton Community Playground!
Friday, October 26, 2018
4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Barton Community Playground, Barton Road, Wellesley
* With Halloween coming up, we encourage kids to wear a costume to the playground (optional).
Come in your costume, or come as you are! Have fun with your friends, running, jumping, climbing, and playing on the beautiful Barton Community Playground! This will be a fun time to enjoy some pizza and meet friends, make new friends – and get some fresh air before the rain comes, tomorrow!
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend yesterday’s Coffee With ‘Becca! The presentation by PT, Karen Walsh and OT, Kristin Mawhinney and was filled with helpful information about brain development, finding joy in play with your child, and creative ideas to help develop your child’s brain, balance, coordination, and his or her connectedness to you!
Here is a LINK to the slide show with a few ideas about ways to get moving with your children!
There was so much information to cover, we’ll likely host a Part 2 Session at a future meeting! We will share additional information, talk some more about Brain Gym and other interesting topics! And we’ll look forward to hearing from you about the activities you’ll have tried and what your child liked best!
We look forward to seeing you at the next Coffee With ‘Becca, on Thursday, November 15, 2018 when P.A.W.S. School Psychologist, Terry Weksel, will join us again, to explore the topic of how anxiety might manifest in young children and some related parenting strategies. Terry shared this presentation in September, and it was so good, we wanted to offer it again for those who missed it!
Dress For the Weather
With the weather being fickle, we have warmer days and cooler days, and we like to be able to play outside as much as we are able! We ask that you dress your child in layers, and provide a warm hat, mittens and coat (all labeled with your child’s name) for days when there is a chill in the air, and we are outside for play.
Water Bottles
Staying well hydrated is important for healthy bodies and brains! Please send a clean water bottle to school with your child each day. You may fill it with water from home, or your child can fill it at school. Please be sure your child’s water bottle is marked clearly with your child’s name.
Safety Walk
Periodically the children practice different safety drills such as fire drills and safety walks throughout the year. These drills help the children and the staff practice safety skills, so they’ll know just what to do, should we ever need to be extra safe.
Today the children at P.A.W.S. practiced a school safety walk with our community helpers from the Wellesley Police Department, Officer Kathy Poirier and Sergeant Brian Spencer! The children did a wonderful job listening to their teacher’s directions and walked safely to meet our police friends! The shiny silver badge stickers, from Officer Kathy, were a special treat!
If you have any questions about our safety drills, please feel free to contact me at P.A.W.S. and I will be happy to chat with you.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! If you are staying inside tomorrow, perhaps you can try some of the Rainy Day indoor games (Slide 14) from the OT and PT information session LINK! Or as one student said today, “I love rainy days, because I get to bake with my mom!” and then he thought for a moment and added, “But she needs a recipe!” Here is a LINK from Growing-Minds.org, that might be a helpful resource for you tomorrow, if you feel like spending some time in the kitchen with your preschooler! Enjoy!
Best,
‘Becca Z.
