Bates Buzz

Dear Bates Families,
Happy New Year!  I hope you enjoyed a restful and enjoyable vacation.  Now that we are settling back into the routine of school, I am asking for your help in getting our day started on time.  The school day at Bates starts at 8:30 a.m.  We ask that all students enter the building a few minutes before 8:30 to allow time to put away backpacks and get settled into the classrooms.  Instruction begins at 8:35 a.m.  The cold weather brings a longer car line in the morning, so please plan accordingly.  Thank you for your help with this important goal for our school.
At this time, we are in the early stages of preparing to add Spanish language instruction in grades K-2 at Bates next year.  You recently should have received an email invitation to attend a presentation for parents that will provide details on the Spanish language program.  The presentation will be delivered by Helena Curtain, author and consultant to WPS, and will be held next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Wellesley High School Katherine L. Babson, Jr. auditorium. Dr. Curtain will also visit Bates and other Wellesley Schools next week to meet with teachers to discuss the program. We are excited to add this instruction to our curriculum for students next year.
Next week is P.E. drop-in week!  Parents are encouraged to attend one of their child’s P.E. classes, which will be focused on dance instruction.  You are welcomed to bring your dancing shoes and dance with your child or simply have fun watching your child’s moves.    Just come to the gym during your child’s assigned P.E. time.  Below is the schedule:
