The Bates School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, three parents, two teachers and a community member. 

The main areas of responsibility for School Councils, as mandated by the Education Reform Act of 1993, are to assist the building principal in:

  1. Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
  2. Identifying the educational needs of our students 
  3. Reviewing the annual school building budget
  4. Formulating a school improvement plan

In addition, the School Council is an opportunity for parents, teachers and community members to feel united and collaboratively explore issues related to the district’s initiatives, the home-school relationship, student safety and school climate.  

The Bates School Council meets once a month on the following dates:
