Dear Bates Families,
It has been wonderful to see many of you over the past few weeks during parent teacher conferences. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with you to support your child’s experience at Bates. Please know that in addition to our twice a year scheduled parent teacher conferences, our door is always open. If you have a question or concern you’d like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to call your child’s teacher or me.
Parents of current fourth and fifth graders should have received last year’s MCAS scores. In addition, Superintendent David Lussier sent an email to parents to provide information about the changes in this version of the MCAS. I would like to share the following link to resources for parents from the state: MCAS Resources for Parents I am working with the PTO to schedule a date in December to share Bates’ MCAS results and answer any questions you may have.
I am excited to announce that we have a new set of school wide rules for Bates. Student representatives from each class met over the course of several weeks to identify the rules they felt were most important for all of us to follow to be our best at Bates. Our students did an amazing job with this work! Our new rules are: Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Safe. We will refer to these rules as the “3 B’s” that help us all to be our best at Bates. We know our students will do a great job following the 3B’s!
I would like to share a link to an interesting video called Rethinking Giftedness, created by Stanford professor Jo Boaler and the organization youcubed.org. This video reinforces the importance of growth mindset messages that we teach during the Week of Inspirational Math and incorporate into math instruction all year long. If you would like to learn more about this approach, you can explore the parent resources on the youcubed.org website as well.
As a reminder, we will not have school tomorrow in observance of Veteran’s Day.
Warm regards,
Toni Jolley
