Dear Bates Families,

Our students enjoyed the first day of snow today!  Now that winter is upon us, please remember that we do go outside for recess in the snow and cold, so please send students to school dressed for the weather.   In order to play in the snow, students need snow boots and snow pants.  Those without boots can play on the blacktop area that has been cleared of snow.

Last Friday we had a very successful emergency drill with the help of the Wellesley Police Department.  Our students listened to their teachers and ran from the building as directed.  The Wellesley police officers met our students at their designated meeting spots and coached them in what to do in a real emergency.  If you have any questions about this drill or how to talk about safety at home with your child, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or me.

Each year at Bates we have a day of creativity and innovation called The Magnificent Day of Play.  In the past, this day has been held in December.  This year, we will have our Day of Play on Wednesday, January 23.  In the coming weeks students will begin planning, sketching and collecting materials for their potential creations.  Families can help by saving boxes and other recyclable materials at home.  Many adult volunteers are needed to make this day a success for our students.  Please consider volunteering to help if you are able.  A volunteer sign up and additional details about the day will be sent to families in early January.

In anticipation of the short week next week, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Warm regards,

Toni Jolley
