Registration begins this Thursday, March 10 at 10am. Visit the Wellesley Recreation website and search for Activity #222502 to register. Please note that you will need to log in to sign up for classes. If you don’t have a user account, please call (781) 235-2370 to have the Recreation Department create an account for you.

Kickstart STEM
Instructor: WHS Students
This course is designed to not only build STEM knowledge and critical thinking skills in your child, but also foster a lifelong curiosity for a wide variety of STEM topics. Each week, students participate in a different hands-on activity, carefully crafted to be engaging, informational, and inspirational. These lessons cover subjects ranging from aeronautics, to cellular biology, to the physics behind extreme weather.

Drama Club
Instructor: Molly Cote
Laughing No Laughing, Slow Motion Emotion, Bus Stop, One Word Story, Birthday Party, Look and Scream, Intro and Applause…these are just some of the fun and active drama games that your performers will play to get warmed up and learning all they need to know for a good base in all things theatre. From the creative kid who loves to be center stage to the quieter child with a super imagination – there is room for everyone in Drama Club! Showcase of scenes for friends and family will be videoed and sent to families.

Comics, Storyboarding and Digital Animation
Instructor: Cinemakidz
Learn all about film shot composition, storyboarding, and visual storytelling by making your own comic book and digital animation! Participants will improve their drawing skills through the staging and drafting of an original visual story concept they create on paper. Teachers work with students to help them understand how to use the landscape of each panel and page to create a dynamic story with a delicate balance of artwork and language. Participants will dive into drawing techniques and create original characters and personalities. Next, the comic will be translated into a digital drawing, as kids learn to bring their comic to life using Procreate! Kids will learn frame-by-frame animation and make a short animation.

Survivor Kidz
Instructor: Cinemakidz
Children immerse in the natural world and test their survival, acting, and team skills! Learn all about making shelters, learn how to live in the wilderness, and test your team building skills as you compete in the Cinemakidz survivor show! Children will dream up fun personalities and personas for the show, and participate in awesome team building outdoor games and challenges. Kids start the course developing an original game structure for their show. Each class is spent acting in, filming, and creating their very own Survivor-inspired Show. We will then edit our show together using professional equipment and software! Kids will learn all about making a short gameshow series from start to finish with a competitive element.

Chess Lessons
Instructor: Future Masters Chess Academy
This class is led by Jeff Penta who is an established chess Coach and who has taught chess at the Wellesley Chinese language school for the past 4 years. Our program is designed for children of all levels. Our focus is to use the royal game of Chess to improve every child’s cognitive development which includes decision making, creative thinking and critical thinking skills. We are producing future masters and leaders.
