Dear HunneBates,
I hope you enjoy the upcoming vacation week. I have a few things to share from this week and looking ahead to the week of April 24. First, congratulations to our HunneBates Mini-Marathon runners on Wednesday! A huge thank you to Mx. Fyvie for organizing this special event for our students and many thanks to our families for enthusiastically cheering on our runners. We had an amazing day.
Also, congratulations to our third, fourth and fifth graders for finishing their ELA MCAS tests. They demonstrated their best effort, and we are proud of their hard work. I’ve listed the dates for the upcoming Math MCAS tests below. As a reminder, each test is given over two days. Thank you in advance for making every effort for your child to be present for these tests. Students who must miss a test will be given the test on a make up date.
As a reminder, next week is April Vacation and there is no school April 17-21. I hope you enjoy the week. Looking ahead to the week of April 24, I’d like to let families know about two upcoming events:
Kindergarten Orientation for SY23-24
We are excited to welcome parents and guardians of rising Bates and Hunnewell kindergarten students to our Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, April 26 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The evening includes a visit to the kindergarten classrooms followed by a presentation and Q & A in the library.
Help Wellesley Go Idle Free in 2023
On Thursday, April 27 volunteers from Wellesley Green Schools and the parent community will be walking the car line at HunneBates at pickup time, inviting community members to take the pledge to “Go Idle Free in 2023.”
Idling is unhealthy: More than 30% of Wellesley’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation, and 30% of Wellesley’s traffic is school-related. The EPA reports that air toxins from idling are known to cause cancer, respiratory effects like asthma, and other serious health effects. It is also expensive: Each year in the United States, personal-vehicle idling wastes about 3 billion gallons of fuel. And getting caught idling can cost you money in fines.
Additional volunteers are needed during car line to help collect signatures and hand out magnets. Together we can really make a difference! Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. Click here for the Signup Genius.
This event is sponsored by: Climate Action Committee, Natural Resources Commission, Wellesley Police Department, Wellesley Green Schools, Sustainable Wellesley.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation week!
Warmly,
Toni Jolley
