Dear HunneBates,

Thank you to those who were able to join us for Back to School Night last night.  We offered a different format this year in an effort to allow students to share with you the people, places and activities in their school lives that matter the most to them.  We greatly value our relationships with our families and hoped this format would allow you to see and feel what school is like for your child.  I welcome your feedback on Back to School Night and invite you to share at any time your thoughts and hopes regarding home school communication more broadly.  I will use the feedback to inform our opportunities for connection throughout the year.  In the coming weeks I will share dates for informational family coffees and the invitation to sign up for a fall conference with your child’s teacher.  Please email me at any time at  jolleya@wellesleyps.org.

Another highlight of our week

On Wednesday we held our first all school Community Meeting.  Community Meeting is an opportunity for the whole school to gather in a big circle in the gym to share songs, a story and other activities that are important to our community.  Highlights included students singing the Bates School Song, the Hunnewell School Song and the Belong Song, written by our own Beth Perry.  Students cheered to welcome the Bates mascot Tux the penguin, who came to recognize our students’ strong efforts to follow the 3Bs at Bates.

Playgrounds Closed Wednesday, September 27, 1:00 – 2:00 pm

On Wednesday, September 27 the Bates School staff will participate in our annual crisis training with the Wellesley Police Department.  We are fortunate for this opportunity to prepare for a number of emergencies with our partners in the WPD.  Please note: the Bates playgrounds will be closed from 1:00 – 2:00 on Wednesday for this purpose.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Parking on Elmwood Road

If parking on Elmwood Road during drop off or pick up, please park on one side of the road only.  Cars and buses are not able to safely travel when vehicles are parked on both sides of the street.

Finally, as a reminder on Monday, September 25 there is no school in observance of Yom Kippur.  G’mar chatima tovah to those observing Yom Kippur. Have a nice weekend.

Warmly,

Toni
