Dear Bates,
It’s been fantastic to see all of our students this week. Bates is off to a great start.
Thank you to our Bates families for your teamwork in supporting a successful start to school. I’d like to highlight a few efforts:
-
Families are supporting students to arrive at school as close to 8:15 am as possible so that children are ready to start their day at 8:30 in their classroom.
-
Families are using the PickUp Patrol app to communicate attendance and dismissal plans for students each day. This is very helpful.
-
Our volunteer PTO garden crew weeded and planted new plantings for our garden beds this week. Bates looks amazing inside and out.
In these first days of school our students are working hard to learn new academic routines. We support students to feel comfortable making mistakes, knowing this is essential to the learning process, while developing perseverance, responsibility, agency, decision making, and accountability. Our students are also strengthening their collaboration skills and having fun getting to know their classmates.
We hope each family received their paper copy of The Insider’s Guide to Bates. Thank you for reading this guide and familiarizing yourself with all of our procedures and expectations. Please allow me to share the expectations for morning arrival: Morning arrival is a time for gathering and socializing, not recess play. We ask that students not run or play on the structures at this time. Thank you for supporting all of our expectations at Bates.
Back to School Night
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 19 for our Back to School Night. This is an opportunity for parents to visit their child’s classroom, meet their child’s teacher and learn about the curriculum, priorities and expectations for the year. Our schedule is as follows:
Bates School Council
We are looking for two parent volunteers to serve on the Bates School Council. We meet six times a year on Tuesdays at 3:20. You can read more about this opportunity here. Please email me at jolleya@wellesleyps.org if you are interested.
If you have any questions please feel free to call the Bates office. As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, September 2 for Labor Day. I hope you enjoy the long weekend!
Warmly,
Toni Jolley
