Dear Bates,

A highlight of this week was our first Buddy Day on Wednesday.  Students met with their new cross-grade level buddies and started to get to know one another.   Buddies will meet about once a month to engage in brief learning activities together.  We hope that having a buddy is an opportunity for students to get to know a friend in another grade level and feel connected to the larger school community.

Picture Day

Tuesday, October 8 is Picture Day. Coffee Pond provides a free class picture to each student. Individual pictures may be purchased for a fee.

Please contact me at jolleya@wellesleyps.org if you are interested in a scholarship to purchase an individual picture package.

Fall Parent Teacher Conferences

We look forward to scheduling a fall parent teacher conference for each child starting the last week of October.  We invite you to sign up for a conference using a link that I will email to you at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9.  If you would like assistance signing up for a conference, please call the Bates office.

International Walk, Ride & Roll Day

This Wednesday, October 9, is International Walk, Ride & Roll Day.  Students and adults around the world will be reducing emissions by ditching their cars and walking or biking to school or work. Connect with neighbors and friends to bike together or set up a walking school bus. If you live too far to walk the entire way, consider driving part way and walking a few minutes. While Bates enjoyed our own Walk & Roll to School Day last week, we encourage families to take part next week as well.

With e-bikes growing in popularity, the Town of Wellesley has put together guidance for e-bike riders on safe and responsible riding.  We extend a big THANK YOU to the students who do their part every day by taking the bus!

The Bates Halloween Parade

Bates will hold a Halloween parade starting at 8:45 am on Thursday, October 31.  Students who wish to participate in the parade should wear their costume to school and bring a change of clothes for after the parade.  Classes will walk around the school building two times.  A few additional details:

  • Any child who does not wish to participate in the parade is invited to participate in a fun activity in the gym.

  • Costumes should be appropriate for a K-5 audience.  No masks, face coverings or weapons may be brought to school.

  • Families are invited!  Please stand anywhere on the parade route, off to the side of the sidewalks where students will walk.

Finally, there was a lot of excitement today in anticipation of the Bates Pumpkin Fair tomorrow.  We are all grateful for the enormous volunteer effort our families make to support a successful and fun Pumpkin Fair.  Thank you for supporting our school and community.

Warmly,

Toni Jolley
